“Walk of mister Chenk through the divided continent” - First solo exhibition of Gjorge Jovanovic in Tochka

In the past few years, the young artist Gorge Jovanovic, took part in a numerous group exhibitions around Macedonia. It is his first time now to have an individual exhibition, parallel in two galleries in Skopje. It is not a result of a hipper production of art works; on the contrary, it is a concept that enables the unification of two different approaches to one unity. |
Biography
Gjorgje Jovanovic (1980) diplommaed 2003 at the Faculty of Visual Art,
Skopje, on the Painting Department in the class of prof. Rubens
Korubin. He works in Painting, Scenography, Strip, Design, Sculpture.

 While in the gallery “Tocka”, where he is exhibiting collages
contributing to the so called “public art”, in the gallery in MKC
(Youth Cultural Center), Jovanovic is presenting to us around thirty
processed photographs in which the portrait is the main subject. The
idea to present the dichotomy (distinction) of his art world is the
connection between the works in the different show rooms.
Using the creative features of the collage, such as the process of
selecting the material, the division of fragments from the whole, and
their implement in a completely new concept that gives the new meaning
to the art work, the artist is occupied by one technical process in
which the time in an essential element in the completion of the art
work. On the contrary, when working on the photographs that belong to
the genre “artist’s photograph” or “the photography as art”, the
author is using the photograph as a media for visual research in order
to register the moment, the view, in this presentation the characters
spotted by his camera. This edition of photographs is achieved thanks
to the many features of the digital camera that enables the artist to
preserve every interesting moment that inspired him.
The photographs were processed with a computer design program, not to
achieve an aesthetical effect and better visual appeal, but to search
for the structure of his language of expression that is the closest to
his painting. These photographs do not have a status of a document,
nor pretend to be in the rank of artistic photography, they have an
individual artistic character in which the artist is expressing his
personal view of the world that surrounds him.
The presented photographs are images of people, friends and
acquaintances that have already been through certain intimate
observation of the artist. The visible effect is achieved by the
computer processing of the realistically taken photographs. With that
procedure, he is creating the images that own features trustworthy to
the possibility of photo graphy,
but through the process of prequalification of its meaning, they get a
new plot that gives them a character of a painting. With these
photographs, the author demonstrates the connections that are very
close to his portrayal believes. The light drives his main interest in
photography; the light – shadow relationship, the instant activity of
the light that affects the form of the picture, determining the space,
the composition, and the atmosphere. Involving these typical artistic
steps in his photographs, Gorge Jovanovic, successfully achieves to
“paint” the portraits of his close friends the way he feels, no just
the way he sees them.
