Gordana Vrencoska - Correspondence (paintings, drawings, objects)
The crucial element in the latest project of Gordana Vrencoska
"Correspondence" in communication - information exchange, as
indicated in the title.
Hereby, the correspondence, displayed in several parts (rooms), is
observed through its negative aspect, as a strictly business process
without any dialogue, as a linear emission of information. Unlike
the previous projects, where personal questions are targeted, the
author takes the role of a catalyst for the collective messaging.
If we
consider Umberto Eco's communication scheme which defines the
communication process and according to it: whenever such process
takes place, the same happens only when the main source code
initially passes through the transmitter in order to reach the
receptor. The decoding of the original message, in this case, is not
performed by the receptor, but by the transmitter (the artist
represents the transmitter) who transforms the message.
The "Postcards", through which the message deconstruction is
performed, point on the strategies of loosing the individuality in
global and local frames through the complex mechanisms of
"inter-cultures" and "collective myths": the production of the
sense, forms of its exchange and consumption, values, knowledge...
This presentation is based on quotations, editing, collage,
simulation; abundant in subordinate objects-symbols, iconic and
par-iconic signs and metaphoric, and the highlighted pop-artistic
formal solutions (assemblage, ready-made) are acting as critic of
the consumer-ism. Considering the pop-art basics on promotion, also
the critics of mass-approach on signs of the consumer's products and
national symbols, in these post-pop-art pieces she marks their
shattered sense in the social exchange of values and ideologies; the
seduction of the totalitarian item fetishism and Baudrillard's
hypermarket, and along with it "zero point of the sense (the
commercial)" are deconstructed through acute irony; and at last, we
encounter an emphasis on the search (tailoring, forming) for lost
identity and the human function in society.
Gordana Vrencoska, in this complex project, expresses her own
criticism on the global and the local. The logic, still containing
the form, yet sense-less, gains a form of absurdity, because "there
is no hope for the sense... the sense is mortal... delusions are
immortal... ".
"Correspondence" is a reflection on her concern against the losing
signals of individual creativity in the world.
