Nada Prlja
Curriculum Vitae Personal Background
 

Born on 10.10.1971, in Sarajevo, where she lived until 1982. Moved to Skopje, Macedonia where she lived between 1982 to 1998. She now lives in London, where she has been since 1998, after coming to complete an MPhil research degree at the RCA.

Nada is a professional contemporary artist, working predominantly in the installation medium.
Currently also creating art objects and art books, she has recently ‘rediscovered’ her interest in painting and printmaking. She has extensive experience in photography, printmaking, painting, drawing, computer related art, creative writing, art related research, animations, and TV editing. (For some years now, she has also been working in practices where she has gained considerable experience in art direction and graphic design within the fashion and art sectors).

Consists of: 2 newspapers (magenta & black colour); each of the 10 spreads is framed between two sheets of glass, 170x70 cm. Art Book print on silver foil paper. Silver cord net installation shaped in the form of the heart 2x2x2 m.
Subject: Reexamination of the newspaper’s content that is offered to the public on a daily basis.
Curator: Iskra Geshovska Deputy Director of Cultural Centre ‘Tocka’, Founder of ‘Confluent Margins‘ project.
Exhibited at Gallery ‘Tocka’, Skopje, Macedonia.

Walking on Water According to Dr.Knaipp
Multimedia Installation. 1998
Consisted of: Videoanimation, 5 min loop projection, 4 etching on 4 nightgown, 30min music composition.
Subject: Bodily and Spiritual Healing. Curator: Zoran Petrevski director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Skopje.
Exhibition held at the Centre for Physical Rehabilitation, Skopje.

Video Installation. 1998
Consisted of: Videoanimation, 4 min loop projection, 6 chairs with photographs imprinted on the seat area.
Subject: Comparison between the subjective memory of a selected person and reality.
Theme of the exhibition: “Out of Photo”: The use of Photography in Different Mediums.
Curator: Nebojsa Vilik art critic and director of Soros Center for Contemporary Art, Skopje.
Festival: “Out of Photo” a series of four, traveling solo exhibitions.

THE MPHIL RESEARCH WAS SUPPORTED BY FOUR RELATED EXIBITIONS

Consisted of: An animation in five parts, a 50 min loop projection, five earphones with random music, art book
‘Wired Houses’ consisting of 7 written essays, intertwined with visual narratives consisting of a total of 100 photographs.
Subject: Establishing connections between people who are physically separate/distant.
(This exhibition was the final part of the research project).
Exhibition held at the Royal College of Art, London, UK.

And Some Other Stories…, Installation. 2002
Consisted of: Sixty bottles with secret messages ‘messages in bottles’ which serve as guides to finding ‘visual
essays’ in seven boxes scattered in various locations around the gallery space. Every box has a different content.
Subject: Same as above (third part of the research project). Exhibition held at RCA.

Wired Houses, Installation. 2001
Consisted of: Narrative of 100 photographs and 7 essays on a manually controlled rolling film,
projected within a microfiche reader; dark gray painted ‘reading booth’, with a table and chair.
Subject: Same as above (second part of the research project). Exhibition held at RCA.

Moving Houses, Installation. 1999
Consisted of: A Camera embedded in the wall, exposing the viewfinder aspect of the camera,
through which the projection of a 2 min. loop animation is visible.

Closed Windows. Installation
Consisted of: Wall, window case, portrait (fog effect etching on glass surface).
Subject: The Contemporary portraiture.

Consisted of: 6 glass jars with six etchings, water, and table.
