The aim of this debate is to discuss and to improve the way by which
the media represent the important social and cultural issues, as
well as the question of the culture in the heterogenous communities.
The actual state of the Macedonian culture is that the culture is
still a reflection of one’s own ethnic consciousness, or it is
reduced to trivial consumer good. The culture in large belongs to
the clans, to the public authorities and in recent times to the
merchants. That,s why the rigid and authoritarian tendencies are
still strong.
The cultural diversity is the basic resource for development. At the
beginning of the XXI century every country should adopt cultural
diversity, multiculturalism [by what we think interculturalism and
cultural dialogue] and dialogue as the essential development
context. That means that different cultures and social groups are to
be recognized and promoted inside the country. What is instantly
clear is that we are tired of the Procrustean mono-culturalism of
the Macedonians, but we are also tired from the biculturalism
Macedonians-Albanians. Macedonia really needs a multicultural social
concept that understands the culture and the cultural policy in a
wider picture, than the frames of the ethnicity, which in the
moments is the first and last identification (fortification!) line
in the defense of the individual. There could be no greater
degradation of the complexity of the individual, than reducing it to
the tribal. It is not only the individual that is degraded, whole
social groups as if do not exist in this rough tribal separation. On
the Macedonian public scene there is no place for the problems of
the handicapped, the homosexuals, the people with different
religious beliefs than the dominant ones (Orthodox Christianity and
Islam), the young (especially the children), the women (especially
the abused ones) and for the other smaller ethnic minority groups.
Because of all of these reasons and just in order to keep the
physical and psychological vitality of the society, it is necessary
to create a much more flexible and integrative policy on all levels
of the society. They all need a ”multicultural” (essentially
democratic) turnover. That is why we stress the importance of
including different identitarian, multicultural and diverse artists,
themes and public in media and culture. |
