exhibition of Nehat
Beqiri
in Negotino and Debar
|
The
newest project by the Tetovo artist Nehat Beqiri, the exhibition
"Corridors", held on 1 November in Negotino and on 7
November in Debar, within the "Confluent Margins" project.
|
Nehat's exhibition was held together with Natasha
Andonova "Drawings" and together with promotion of the
campaigne, magazine Margina, and in Debar with the debate
"Identity and contemporainty". In the beginning of 2004
the same exhibition will be held in the Cultural Centre
"Tochka". This "double" exhibition is the core
of our project, to put into relation authors different in sex,
nationality, place of living, style and techniques, to exhibit
together in the capital, Skopje, but also in two towns from the
province: the ethnically homogenous Negotino, and the multiethnic,
close to the border, from the farest west of the country, Debar.

from Maja Chankulovska's review:
Is breaking through of corridors possible?
Latest Nehat Bequiri's exhibition represents a link between two
different phases in the creative work of this artist. Works made
during 2000 have larger size and dominant black color. They actually
originate from decomposition of already utilized theatre scenography
and its revival and putting in function through the expressive
painting interventions and materials accumulated on the canvas.
In the newest paintings, completed during this year (2003), the
author introduces line game which, according to him, suggests
corridors, but also breaking through, links, connections as visions
for moving forward and "free traveling". Although the
colors have similar base to previous works, here one can feel
deliverance and refreshment from the dark atmosphere presented
earlier.
Although these two periods in the work of Nehat Bequiri at first
sight seem different from each other, there are more elements for
their correlation, presented in many spots and through them the
author’s path can be followed. The abstract expression is
characteristic for all the works, but certain associative signs are
also repeated are - circle as a symbol of birth, arc which looks
like boomerang, lines that are derived like a pattern for the
"X-0" game.
Still, maybe the most important connecting net can be sensed through
the existential restlessness which is more or less present in all of
the paintings of this exhibition. If this restlessness in the first
paintings is expressed through the enformel procedure, in the second
(all small-sized), the lines that are repeated resist the limited
conditions and reflect the desire for free moving forward and
deliverance from the limitations. |
